f. Fasteners required of a and b, above, to attach material to the top of the skid mount shall not interfere with the fasteners attaching the cover.
5.5.1.4 Electrolyte. The electrolyte, preserved as specified in 5.4, shall be packed
(2 fiberboard boxes) in a snug-fitting wooden container conforming to PPP-B-601, overseas
type. Blocking and bracing shall conform to MIL-STD-1186 and strapping shall be in accordance with ASTM D 3953 and D 4675, type 1 or 2, grade l or 2.
5.5.2 Level C. Each pump unit, preserved as specified in 5.4, shall be packed in accordance with MIL-STD-1190.
5.6 Marking. In addition to any special or other markings required of the contract or order (see 6.2), each crate shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129, including all appendices as applicable for overseas shipment for use by a Military Command. Interior and exterior
packing lists are required in accordance with MIL-STD-129, appendix F. The packing list on the outside of the crate shall be inserted in a moistureproof envelope and stapled to the side of the crate. The envelope shall then be covered with a fiberboard cover stapled to the crate. The crate surfaces on which markings are to be applied shall be prepared in accordance with
MIL-STD-129, appendix A. All markings shall be l-inch stencils, overcoated (weatherproofed) with a clear coating compound. When the pump units are to be included as part of a set, assembly or module, special care must be exercised to ensure each container is marked as specified. Bar code markings shall be utilized.
6. NOTES
(This section contains information of a general or explanatory nature that may be helpful, but is not mandatory.)
6.1 Intended use. The pump unit will be used primarily to pump fuel through a pipeline in cold (-25 F) and hot (135 F) temperatures. The operating conditions will range from dry to humid with frequent periods of blowing sand.
6.2 Acquisitions requirements. Acquisition documents should specify the following:
a. Title, number, and date of specification.
b. Issue of DODISS to be cited in the solicitation, and if required, the specific issue of
individual documents referenced (see 2.1.1 and 2.2).
c. When a first article is required for the first article inspection and approval
(see 3.2, 4.3 and 6.3).
d. When data for air transportability is required (see 3.17.3).
e. Color of finish coat if other than as specified (see 3.21).
f. When electromagnetic interference suppression is not required (see 3.24).
g. Time frame required for submission of first article pack (see 5.1 and 6.5). h. Level of preservation and packing required (see 5.4 and 5.5).
i. Special marking required (see 5.6).
