MIL-P-53108(ME)
pictorial battery connection diagram shall be provided. The diagram shall be readable while the batteries are being serviced. The box shall also provide gas venting of the battery cells and contain two holes for drainage. Electrolyte shall be provided.
3.24 Electromagnetic interference. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the unit shall be equipped for the suppression of electromagnetic interference in accordance with MIL-STD-461 for engine-driven-equipment.
3.25 Fungus and moisture resistance. The electrical circuitry, including all components and connections, except as specified below, shall be protected from the effects of fungus growth and moisture by an overall treatment with a varnish conforming to MIL-V-173, composition I or II, as applicable, with 1 percent copper 8-quinolinolate (by weight), based on the nonvolatile content of the varnish.
a. Components or circuit elements that are inherently fungus and moisture resistant or which are hermetically sealed need not be treated.
b. Components or circuit elements whose functions will be adversely affected by the varnish coating shall not be treated.
When used, the varnish shall be applied by spray, brush, or a combination of both to give a dry-film thickness of not less than 1 mil to component or element surfaces previously cleaned and prepared so that the surfaces are free from all foreign matter which would interfere with the adherence or function of the varnish.
3.26 Dimensions. The overall dimensions of the pump unit shall not exceed the following: Length: 300 inches
Width: 80 inches
Height (assembled): 150 inches
Height (prepared for shipment): 80 inches
3.27 Weight. The weight of the pump unit shall not exceed 16,000 pounds, uncrated;
20,000 pounds, crated.
3.28 Workmanship.
3.28.1 Fabrication. Metal used in the fabrication shall be free from kinks, sharp bends, and other conditions which would be deleterious to the finished product. Manufacturing processes shall not reduce the strength of the metal to a value less than intended by the design. Manufacturing process shall be done neatly and accurately. All bends shall be made by controlled means to ensure uniformity of size and shape.
3.28.2 Bolted connections. Bolt holes shall be accurately punched or drilled and shall have the burrs removed. Washers or lockwashers shall be provided where necessary and all bolts, nuts, and screws shall be tight and shall have full thread engagement. Prior to assembly, threads on all screwed fittings shall be coated with sealing compound conforming to MIL-S-45180. Bolts shall protrude not more than two full threads.
