COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PUMP , INFLATING, MANUAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the
use of this commercial item description by all Federal
agencies.
1.
SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers a manually
operated air pump designed to inflate bicycle and automobile
tires .
2.
SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 General. The pump shall be a manually operated tire air
pump consisting of a pump cylinder, a plunger, plunger rod,
handle, a cylinder top with bumper, a cylinder base with a hose
connection and foot stirrups, a rubber hose, and a tire chuck for
positive connection to a Schrader type tire valve.
2 .2 Construction
The pump cylinder shall be made of steel and
shall be 23 inches (58.4 cm) minimum in overall length. The
cylinder shall be straight and shall be free from burrs or
irregularities and shall be securely connected to a base and a
top. The base shall have a hose connection and two integral or
folding foot stirrups. Each stirrup shall be 2-1/2 inches (6 4
cm) minimum long from the cylinder wall. The top shall be
secured to the cylinder and not come loose during normal use.
There shall be a bumper or spring on the cylinder top to cushion
the downward movement of the plunger
The plunger shall be
attached to a stainless steel or chromed steel rod and shall be
constructed of material not requiring lubrication. The plunger
rod shall have a handle at the top end. The handle shall be two
handed, with each hand grip being 3-1/4 inches (8.3 cm) long
minimum measured from the center of the plunger rod. The
