3.3.2.4 Pump units shall not overload the motor at any condition of
operation from shut-off capacity to wide-open while pumping the specified
fluid.
3.3.2.5 Pumps shall operate satisfactorily at any condition of operation
from shut-off capacity to wide-open while pumping-the specified fluid.
3.3.2.6 Pumps shall be right hand rotation (clockwise when viewed from
the motor end of unit) only.
3.3.2.7 Pumps shall be fitted with casing wearing rings which shall be
secured from rotating by set screws mounted in the joint between the casing
and ring.
3.3.3 Casings.
3.3.3.1 Casings shall permit the examination and replacement of wearing

3.3.3.2 Pumps shall have casings arranged so that the discharge may be
located in any of the three positions shown on figure 1.
3.3.3.3 Casings shall be provided with the necessary bosses for vent,
drain, priming, and gauge connection in accordance with MS16142 for the thread
positions of discharge. Bosses for gauge connections shall be of sufficient
size for conversion to flanged connections to socket weld type design suitable
for a nipple and flanged connections in accordance with Drawing B-214 (see
6.2.1).
3.3.3.4 Casings shall be provided with a vent cock in the proper location
for the position of discharge. The remaining unused vent and drain hole bosses
shall be provided with plugs in accordance with MS18229.
3.3.3.5 Casings shall withstand the applicable hydrostatic pressures
shown on figure 1 (see 4.6.2).
3.3.3.6 Spare casing wearing rings (see 6.5.2) shall be machined undersize
by at least 0.050 inch on the diameter in order to permit finish machining
during shipboard installation to mate with used impellers.
3.3.4 Suction and discharge connections. Suction and dicharge connec-
tions shall be flanged for mating with flanges in accordance with MIL-STD-777.
3.3.5 Impellers.
3.3.5.1 Impellers shall be of the single inlet closed type. Outside and
inside surfaces of the impellers shall be smooth. Impellers shall be dynamically
balanced.
3.3.5.2 Impellers shall be keyed on the shaft and securely held against
lateral movement by locked nuts or other means acceptable to the design review
agency. Shaft threading shall be counter to the direction of rotation.
